6 WAYS THE OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE CAN DAMAGE YOUR SKIN (AND HOW TO FIX IT)

6 WAYS THE OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE CAN DAMAGE YOUR SKIN (AND HOW TO FIX IT)

You can’t beat the Kiwi outdoor lifestyle. Long summers in the surf, the sun and the sand. Epic trips up the mountain in winter, shredding in the snow. Adventures out at sea reeling in giant kingfish.

But after a while, all that sun, sand and stoke can start to take its toll. Here are six ways the outdoor lifestyle can damage your skin - and how Mr Weekender’s cleanser and moisturiser can help you stop it and keep your mug looking good now and in 10 years.

SUN

When the sun’s shining, you want to be out there soaking it in. We get it. But overexposure to the heat of the sun can cause your skin to dry out, lose its essential oils and start flaking. This can lead to premature wrinkling and aging, even for young guns like yourself.

Getting burnt is even worse. Long term overexposure to harmful UV rays can actually change the structure of the cells, thicken your skin and cause deeper wrinkles. Gnarly right?

We’re not suggesting you stay inside (bugger that) but a little self care can go a long way to stopping the sun from damaging your skin. Step one to avoid sun damage is to find a good reef-safe, SP50+ sunblock and jam it on. Step two is using Mr Weekender’s nourishing moisturiser to help replace all the good stuff you lose after being out there under Big Yellow.

SALT, SAND AND SUNBLOCK

You know that tight feeling your skin gets after a day at the beach or in the surf? That’s thanks to all the salt, sand and sunblock that’s built up on your mug and stuck together in a dry, irritating layer.

Leave this stuff on and you might experience redness, dryness and blotchiness. Luckily, we can solve that for you easy-as. Just give your mug a post-beach scrub with Mr Weekender’s all-natural cleanser to clean and nourish your skin.

SWEAT

When you’re out there catching waves or hiking mountains, you’re probably going to sweat a little. But what you might not know is your sweat has a bunch of impurities and toxins in it that can irritate your skin if you don’t wash it off. It can also cause acne.

A quick blast with Weekender’s facial cleanser can get rid of the sweat and stop the pimples before they pop up - no worries.

SEASONS AND SNOW

Us Kiwis are pretty lucky to have huge mountains with world class skiing and snowboarding right here in our backyard.  We reckon you’d be rude not to enjoy it every chance you get.

But the cold climate and dry atmosphere up the mountain can dry out your skin as it struggles to adapt.  Don’t stress!  There’s no need to miss your trip to the snow.  Just make sure you pack some Mr Weekender moisturiser to replenish your skin and you’ll be good as gold.

STOKE

We don’t know about you guys but the whole time we’re out there adventuring, we’ve got smiles on our dials. After years and years of stoke, as your skin loses its elasticity lines can start to form on your face.

What’s the solution? Keep smiling and use Mr Weekender’s nourishing moisturiser every day. It’s packed with stuff that’ll keep your skin looking young, smooth and with far less wrinkles.

SIP

After a day going hard in the outdoors there’s nothing better than a couple cold beers or a cheeky vino - it always tastes better when you’ve earned it. Unfortunately, what’s in your cup can affect what’s on your face. Alcohol can dry out your skin, release toxins that increase redness, and dilate pores causing blackheads and pimples.

Don’t stress - it’s an easy fix. Drink in moderation and take a minute for selfcare every day with Mr Weekender’s cleanser and moisturiser and those well-deserved drinks won’t do you as much harm.

To take care of your skin, you don’t need to stay inside and avoid all the stuff that could damage it. No way. All you need is a splash of water, a couple of minutes, a good attitude and some Mr Weekender skincare. Take a look at our range here.
